Providence College: Friar Development Center

Providence, Rhode Island
Perkins Eastman provided Architectural services for a new, 70,000 sf, Friar Development Center. The center will house the basketball practice and support facility and an expanded career service center, serving both the student and the student athlete. Both programs are catalysts energizing and enriching the Friar Development Center, strengthening connections and relationships between the various components and creating a destination on campus that captures the spirit of Friar Town and what it means to be a part of it. The center represents and identifies the legacy and future of all Friars on campus: student, player, professors, coaches, supporters, alumni family and community – the Friar family.

The design team developed the underutilized space between two buildings built in different eras for different purposes with an enclosed concourse that features an ETFE roof, connecting the Ruane Atrium, Slavin Center, Alumni Hall and the new men’s basketball practice facility. Sustainable features include a solar control and conditioning of the space minimizing MEP infrastructure.
