AQR Capital Management

Greenwich, Connecticut
After exponential growth led AQR to evaluate its existing office space and develop a future real estate strategy, Perkins Eastman implemented an online employee survey, strategic focus groups, and one-on-one meetings to identify both qualitative and quantitative drivers for the new workplace design. Using this data; the first, third, and fourth floors of the existing headquarters were renovated to accommodate AQR’s business requirements and collaborative culture.

While traditional perimeter executive offices were retained for acoustic privacy, focus group and team rooms were added to provide supplemental collaboration space for the staff in open workstations and trading desks. A conference center adjacent to the new reception area comprises an executive boardroom, five conference rooms, and a library containing 1,400 books.

The design for the 40,450 sf office marries a neutral palette with beech paneling in the conference rooms, and a glass and wood office front system to provide access to natural light and views. Stone flooring and countertops are used in high-profile areas. A key design element—a communicating stair—promotes both convenience and connectivity between the groups. A two-story, back-lit blue glass accent wall with AQR’s logo enhances the visual connectivity between the two levels.
