Co-founder and Chairman of Perkins Eastman, Brad has directed a wide variety of projects in each of the firm’s primary practice areas. These have ranged from small projects for non-profit organizations and major healthcare and education institutions to large-scale, mixed-use developments, entire institutional campuses, and master plans for new cities. He has worked throughout the US and Canada as well as on projects in over 30 countries overseas. The depth of Brad’s experience makes him a firm-wide resource on planning, programming, project management and feasibility analysis.
Brad’s portfolio of work has been recognized by dozens of awards for planning and design excellence and has been featured regularly in books and the design press. He is also the author of more than 80 professional articles and book chapters as well as seven textbooks on a variety of planning and architectural topics. He has lectured at over 100 conferences and colleges and is currently on the faculty of Cornell’s College of Architecture, Art and Planning. He has served on many Boards and Commissions and for five years was the Chairman of Helen Keller International, a major NGO dedicated to preventing blindness and malnutrition in many of poorest countries around the world. In addition to his architectural degree, he has a degree in Latin American History from Cornell University and an MBA from Stanford University.

Mary-Jean Eastman FAIA, MRAIC, IIDA

A Principal, Executive Director, and founding partner of Perkins Eastman, Mary-Jean plays a key role in the overall design direction of the firm while she also is the Managing Principal of the New York Office. She is involved in the firm’s healthcare, higher education, public building, and residential design practices. Integrating architecture and interior design to create significant spaces and humanizing institutional environments are central to Mary-Jean’s professional practice.
Over a career spanning more than 40 years, Mary-Jean has concentrated especially on designing patient-focused environments for healthcare clients, working with numerous top academic medical centers and healthcare institutions worldwide. Mary-Jean’s design innovation and sensitive approach have redefined "state-of-the-art" in her specialty areas, and have been recognized with nearly every major award for design excellence, enhancing the firm’s reputation as a leader in the design of programmatically complex buildings.
Mary-Jean is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a member of the Royal Canadian Institute of Architects and the International Interior Design Association. She has been active in the New York Chapter of the AIA, serving as a Director and member of the Nominating and Honors committees. She is a board member of the New York Building Congress, the Salvadori Center, and the Ace Mentor Program.
J. David Hoglund FAIA, LEED AP

A Principal and Executive Director at Perkins Eastman, David also serves as the firm’s President and Chief Operating Officer for U.S. operations. As COO, David oversees the domestic offices and strategic operating groups for human resources, finance, information technology, and operations. He also provides leadership for the firm's global senior living practice, and has been involved in countless architectural, planning, and interior design projects spanning a variety of building types and located both throughout the United States as well as internationally.
In addition to his design and planning work, David has continuously contributed to his field as the author of numerous books and articles and as a frequent presenter at national conferences. He also teaches courses at Harvard University and the University of Southern California, further demonstrating his academic involvement and contributing greatly to the firm’s leadership in the industry.
David is a past president of the Pittsburgh chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and he is a member of LeadingAge and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
Andrew J. Adelhardt III General Counsel

A Principal at Perkins Eastman, Andrew serves as General Counsel to the firm, providing advice and counsel on legal, business and insurance matters. He has 25 years of experience practicing law in the areas of construction, real estate, and business, and he is admitted to both the New York State and Federal Bars. Having worked in the construction and real estate development industry for his entire career, Andrew has an in-depth and unique understanding of construction issues that makes him a firm-wide resource, allowing him to provide counsel on a diverse range of legal and business subjects.
Shawn Basler AIA

Shawn is a Principal at Perkins Eastman and a leader in the design of internationally recognized architectural and planning projects. With more than 17 years of experience, Shawn’s work has ranged from hotels and resorts, office buildings, and residential development to industrial and commercial planning and development projects. Shawn frequently leads projects from initial concept, planning, and programming through technical design, offering comprehensive professional design services throughout. He has taken on this leadership role in the firm for numerous projects located throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
Supplementing his accomplished architectural portfolio, Shawn is a member of the American Planning Association and is a Professional Advisory Board member of Kansas State University’s College of Architecture, Planning & Design.
Jeffrey Brand AIA

Jeff is a Principal and the National Healthcare Leader at Perkins Eastman with more than 25 years of experience focusing specifically on the design and master planning of healthcare facilities and medical schools. Well versed in the latest technological advances in the areas of surgery, imaging, and inpatient accommodation, Jeff has been recognized as a leader in healthcare planning. His approach focuses on patient comfort and designing spaces that blend new technologies and innovations with welcoming interior design and architectural features. Also central to Jeff’s work is an exploration how green and sustainable design can be addressed and implemented in healthcare architecture.
Erich Burkhart FAIA

Erich is a principal and member of the Executive Committee of Perkins Eastman, and the managing principal of the San Francisco office. For 37 years, Erich has combined his unique education in both architecture and public health to transform healthcare design nationally—creating facilities that are both humanistic and therapeutic, while pioneering the use of flexible building systems that integrate change as treatment modalities and medical technologies evolve. He has created new architectural forms that encourage healing and respect human dignity, while striving to overcome the programmatic and regulatory requirements that dominate healthcare facility design.
Erich has led the design of a variety of excitingly innovative and award-winning projects ranging from large medical centers like the Stanford University Medical Center replacement, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, and LAC+USC Medical Center to complex biomedical research laboratories including the University of Southern California Harlyne J. Norris Cancer Research Tower and the University of California San Diego Cellular and Molecular Medicine East facility.
Erich is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and a member of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health.
Candace Carroll Chief Financial Officer

Candace is a Principal at Perkins Eastman and the firm’s Chief Financial Officer. Having spent the entirety of her career applying strong principles of business to the financial operations of design firms, Candace oversaw all financial operations as the Director of Operations at EE&K Architects prior to their merger with Perkins Eastman. Candace also served as liaison for the firm’s clients and worked to effectively streamline the financial operations of the firm, benefiting clients and consultants.
Nicholas Leahy AIA, LEED AP

A Principal at Perkins Eastman with 29 years of experience, Nick manages, directs, and leads design for the firm on projects across a number of industry sectors. His work ranges from large-scale urban design projects to civic buildings, museums, and cultural centers, and institutional facilities, and has been recognized with numerous awards.
Nick’s design approach is characterized by a critical balance of place, program, and craft. Key to his methodology is the investigation of each site’s relationship to its environment, history, and its intended use. Nick’s work can be found across the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and recent projects include: the award-winning design and construction of the TKTS Booth in Times Square; the winning international design competition entry for the Shanghai World Expo Public Events Center; and renovation and design for the Lower East Side Tenement Museum’s new Visitors Center.
Alan Schlossberg AIA, LEED AP

Alan is a Principal and Executive Director at Perkins Eastman with more than 20 years' experience in a wide variety of planning, new construction, renovation, and adaptive re-use assignments. His work has included colleges and universities, early childhood education centers, healthcare, and research facilities, and he serves as one of the firm’s leaders in design for education.
In addition to the completion of more than 35 complex large-scale projects and studies, Alan’s body of work includes contributions to national publications and presentations at numerous conferences and seminars. He has further applied this industry involvement as a Board Member of the American Institute of Architects’ Pittsburgh Chapter and as an active member in several civic and community organizations.
